Kyle Richards ‘Would Never’ Put Children Through Split Trauma for ‘Relevance’
When any reality star makes headlines, audiences always turn skeptical. Reality TV is an industry fueled by relevancy and controversy. Sometimes, fans have to wonder to what degree that controversy is manufactured.
As soon as news came out that Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky were separating, rumors began taking shape. Plenty of fans, then and now, have suggested that the split and possible divorce have all been for the sake of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills ratings.
On November 14, Bravo launched their new podcast, Bravo’s Hot Mic, hosted by Emmy-nominated executive producer Alex Baskin. The first episode featured Kyle discussing all things RHOBH. Audiences can sign up and access the podcast here.
Kyle Richards split: Not “looking to be more relevant”
Alex asked Kyle about the rumors regarding the fabrication of her split. “What human being,” she asked, “would create a story like this … for ratings? Put their family through this? That is one of the dumbest things I’ve maybe ever heard in these 13 years.” She questioned further, “I’m going to pretend that I’m separated and torture my children so that people tune in?”
Kyle continued, suggesting that as a star of 13 years, she didn’t need ‘relevance.’ “I care about being relevant to my friends and family,” she said. “I’m not looking to be more relevant [on TV].” She reiterated that she wouldn’t put her family through this “for a dumb f*cking TV show.”
Alex suggested that audiences have a hard time separating television personalities from their real-world selves. “That is very true,” Kyle agreed. “You’re talking about somebody who couldn’t be any different than who I am.” Kyle expressed her anger specifically at those who claimed she was with Mo for his money. “He had no money when I married him!”
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills continues Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
