Lady Gaga Channels Retro Western Style in Dolly Parton-inspired Wig and Blue Minidress for ‘Die With a Smile’ Music Video Featuring Bruno Mars
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars took their fans on a time-traveling journey in the music video of their new single, “Die With a Smile.” Released on Thursday, the video, set in a retro-inspired TV studio with mannequins, shows both singers channeling 1970s Western fashion in looks reminiscing of Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner.
Gaga wore a blue minidress tailored by Ashley Eva Brock, featuring an amphora line and leaf embroidery. To add contrast, Gaga wore a red silk cravat-neck blouse underneath, red Wolford tights and matching Roger Vivier pumps. The look was styled by Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo, who have previously worked with Sza, Willow Smith, Kim Kardashian and Lana del Rey.

Alexandra French did Gaga’s makeup using products from Haus of Labs, the beauty company the singer founded in 2019. Her nails were done by Yoko Sakakura, who has worked with Olivia Rodrigo and Chloe Bailey before. Evanie Frausto styled Gaga’s hair, which was also inspired by Parton.
Mars coordinated with Gaga in a blue suit with a red button-down shirt featuring sharp lapels. Their matching looks nod to the 1960s duet performances on the Grand Ole Opry stage, where Parton and Wagoner used to perform.
Parton and Wagoner collaborated on numerous hit songs and albums throughout the late 1960s and early ’70s. Both often incorporated classic Western elements like cowboy hats, boots and bolo ties into their outfits. Wagoner was famous for his elaborate Nudie and Manuel suits, which featured intricate embroidery, rhinestones and bold colors. Parton was known for her voluminous blond hair and flashy style.
Gaga and Mars performed “Die With a Smile” live during the Intuit Dome grand opening in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Gaga wore a style similar to her music video look but opted for a pink checkered minidress.
“Die With a Smile” is the first time Gaga and Mars have worked together on a song.
