LAIKA releases teaser trailer for new movie set in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hillsboro-based film company LAIKA has released the trailer for their new movie Wildwood, which takes place in and around Portland.
The company behind ‘Coraline’ and ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ released the short teaser trailer Friday, three weeks after a first look debuted on the cover of Empire magazine.
The trailer features clips from previous LAIKA films underneath narration by actor Jake Johnson before the film’s title ‘Wildwood’ is revealed in leafy text.
Is Portland trying to stretch the concert venue limit? Experts say yes
The movie, based on a book written by Colin Meloy of Portland indie band The Decemberists, follows the story of a girl trying to save her baby brother after he is taken by crows into an enchanted forest outside of Portland.
When the film was first announced in 2021, LAIKA President and CEO Travis Knight shared his excitement about the movie and waxed poetic about his home state of Oregon.
“As a deep-dyed native son of Oregon, I have rainwater, microbrew, and fair-trade coffee coursing through my veins,” Knight said. “With Wildwood, I have the opportunity to tell a madly ambitious story of magic, wonder, and danger set in the place I grew up. My very own Portland will join that pantheon of unforgettable fantasy realms, with a stirring epic that will kindle imaginations, lift spirits, and break hearts.”
The film is expected to release in 2025.
