Lainey Wilson and Kelly Clarkson Prove ‘Country’s Cool Again’ With Kellyoke Duet
Country is the coolest it’s ever been as Lainey Wilson and Kelly Clarkson share a special duet version of “Country’s Cool Again.” The song appeared on Wilson’s recently released studio album of the same name and came to life on the Kelly Clarkson Show stage.
Clarkson’s Kellyoke segment has been in Lainey Wilson-mode for a few weeks now. In February, the host covered Jelly Roll’s record “Save Me,” which features Wilson, and earlier in the season she delivered a rendition of the country star’s song “Watermelon Moonshine.” Clarkson has gone country quite a few times this season, covering records from Keith Whitley, Chris Stapleton, Bailey Zimmerman, and more.

”It’s an honor to sing with you. I’m so stoked for your whole career,” Clarkson told Wilson after their performance. “I’m just such a big fan. She’s so rad.” The pair also sat down for an interview with Wilson, discussing her relationship with songwriting and why Dolly Parton is one of her biggest inspirations.
“Country music, where I’m from, it’s more than just a genre, it’s a way of life. And it’s so cool to see that Western way of life becoming cool,” she explained. “I think a lot of it had to do with the pandemic. I think a lot of people realized they wanted to feel grounded, they wanted to feel at home, and I think country music makes you feel at home.”
She added: “And of course, the country genre in general right now, it’s firing off; it’s the coolest thing to watch, and I’m proud to be a part of it. Nobody looks alike, nobody sounds alike, everybody’s got a different story, everybody comes from different walks of life. I’m really proud to be a part of this generation of country music.”
