Lamar Odom says the Kardashians are underappreciated: 'They don't get enough credit'

Former NBA star Lamar Odom stopped by The View on Tuesday to promote his new book, Darkness to Light: A Memoir, and opened up to the panel about his relationship with Khloé Kardashian and his struggles with addiction.

“When I looked at Khloé it was like seeing my mother in her eyes,” said Odom of the first time he met Khloé Kardashian. He went on to reveal he felt the two were soulmates “right away.” The pair ended up getting married after only knowing each other for a month.

Co-host Sunny Hostin reveals that Odom told one of The View’s producers that he was “happy to become the first black Kardashian.” When asked about why this was such a significant milestone for him, Odom said that being a part of the Kardashian family was “the most important part of my adult life besides having my children.”

“They’re really strong. I don’t think they get credit for that enough,” said Odom. “If you’ve been through what they’ve been through on the public stage and you’re still as tight as they are...it’s way past the money with them.”

The tone of the conversation shifted dramatically when Odom as asked about his now infamous near-death experience following an overdose in a Nevada brothel. “You OD’d and pretty much almost left the planet,” said co-host Whoopi Goldberg.

“I didn’t do drugs that night,” countered Odom.

He went on to accuse the now-deceased owner of the brothel, Dennis Hof, of intentionally trying to kill him. “I don’t know if he tried to poison me or what...I don’t know what he had against me. He tried to kill me,” said Odom to a shocked panel.

While Odom quickly admitted that he can’t prove the allegations and said that his daughter has told him to “leave it alone,” he’d rather clear his name than keep quiet.

“Your doctors say that it’s a miracle that you survived this, but you went right back to using again,” pointed out co-host Joy Behar. “When you’re an addict you don’t make rational decisions,” said Odom. “I was an addict and I had to come forward to that and admit that.”

It was the threat of his daughter not speaking to him again that helped Odom get the help he needed. “She said ‘Dad, if you don’t go to rehab I won’t talk to you’ and that was it for me,” he shared.

Some viewers on Twitter sympathized with Odom’s struggles and appreciated his honesty about Khloé and his addiction:

However, others weren’t as forgiving of his story.
