Lamorne Morris Asks Robert Downey Jr. to Sign Poster While Accepting Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series

Lamorne Morris has won the Emmy for best supporting actor in a limited series for his role in Fargo. This marks the first Emmy nomination and win for the actor, who rose to fame with his comedic role in New Girl.

While accepting his award for his performance as Deputy Witt Farr, Morris was incredulous at his major milestone. “Oh my gosh! Oh wow!,” he exclaimed. He began his speech by thanking God for “allowing me to be here.”

Morris, who is mostly known for his comedic work, brought humor to his speech. “I also want to thank God for my beautiful mother, who raised me,” he said. “She’s been my biggest champion ever since I…you know, came out…you know, I dropped out of her butt. I know where babies come from!”

Morris also gave a shoutout to his “beautiful daughter,” Lily, “I love you. I told you I would do it. You’ve always doubted me,” he joked. “I’m here, I’m your leader.”

The actor additionally thanked “all the folks at FX,” his “beautiful cast” and his management team, 360.” He also recognized his fellow nominees, admitting that he has Robert Downey Jr.’s poster up in his house. “Please sign it. Seriously,” he said. As the music played to usher him offstage, Morris said he would “do another thing” on his New Girl rewatch podcast The Mess Around and “thank the rest of the group.”

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter back in August, Morris admitted that he was surprised to be nominated alongside his co-stars. “I was very confident in my performance on the show — confident in everyone’s performance. To me, it was a tossup. I thought obviously Jon [Hamm and Juno [Temple] [would be nominated], since they were making waves earlier in awards season,” he said. “That’s why when I say I was in shock, I mean, I was in total, total shock.”
