Lana Parrilla Joins USA’s Rainmaker Adaptation as ‘Bruiser’ Stone

Well, I’d call this an upgrade.

Lana Parrilla has joined the cast of USA Network’s adaptation of John Grisham’s The Rainmaker, in a version of the role played in the 1997 film by Mickey Rourke.

In The Rainmaker, Rudy Baylor (to beplayed by Milo Callaghan of Doctor Who‘s “Dot & Bubble” episode), fresh out of law school, goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond (Mad Men‘s John Slattery) as well as his law school girlfriend, Sarah (I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s Madison Iseman). Along the way, Rudy, his boss J. Lyman “Bruiser” Stone and a disheveled paralegal uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.

Parrilla — whose previous TV credits include Once Upon a Time, The Lincoln Lawyer and the gone-too-soon Swingtown — will fill the role of Jocelyn “Bruiser” Stone, a ballsy lawyer who heads her disgraced father J. Lyman Stone’s strip-mall law firm, our sister site Deadline reports.

In the aforementioned, Matt Damon-led film adaptation, Rourke played J. Lyman “Bruiser” Stone himself.

As for the aforementioned paralegal Deck Shiffflet, played by Danny DeVito in the film, P.J. Byrne (The Boys) will fill that role.

USA Network handed The Rainmaker a series order in June, with Jason Richman (Stumptown)  and Michael Seitzman (Code Black) co-writing the pilot and serving as executive producers.
