Late-night hosts go live to react to Trump's State of the Union speech
A few of the late-night shows were live to share thoughts following President Trump‘s State of the Union speech. This included the The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, and The Opposition with Jordan Klepper.
In the speech, Trump said, “If there is a mountain, we climb it. If there is a frontier, we cross it. If there is a challenge, we tame it. If there is an opportunity, we seize it.”
Impersonating Trump, Colbert added, “If there’s a burger, we eat it. If there is a porn star, we bone it. If there’s an immigrant, we deport it. If there’s an investigation, we undermine it.”
After Trump discussed low unemployment numbers for the African-American population, Trevor Noah noticed most of the black audience was not impressed. Noah said, “Damn — I haven’t seen that many disappointed black people since I told my uncle I was dropping out of school to become a comedian. It’s like reverse ‘Showtime at the Apollo.'”
Jordan Klepper called out Democrats for standing in the way of a unified government by not standing at all during the speech.
Klepper said, “Apparently we need Obamacare back because Democrat legs don’t work. Probably why Trump delivered almost his entire speech to the Republican side of the room. Trump’s vision is like a T. Rex. It’s based on applause.”
For the most part, the shows did their best to come up with creative and funny content quickly after the event.
