The cultural conversational program — presented by Yana Peel, global head of arts and culture at Chanel, and The Gentlewoman’s founder Penny Martin — aims to bring a different perspective to the listeners’ ideas about the art world and the biannual art fair.
“Venice was built from the depths of the ocean with a profound belief in beauty and progress. It is the ideal stage for the fourth season of Chanel Connects, which was recorded on location during the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale,” said Peel, who served as the chief executive officer at Serpentine Galleries before joining Chanel in 2020 to spearhead the brand’s cultural influence.
She added that the latest nine-part series explores the big questions in culture, such as what are the most urgent ideas right now, will new technologies innovate artistic practices, and how do national pavilions facilitate international discourse?
The first episode, with Durbin and Kimberly Drew, author, critic and curatorial director at Pace Gallery, discussing the evolution of art in the digital age, was released last week. Subsequent episodes will roll out every week throughout the summer until Aug 21.
The fashion house was an early mover on the luxury fashion podcast front, launching 3.55 by Chanel in 2017. The series specializes in fashion-focused talks with friends and brand ambassadors, including Keira Knightley, Sofia Coppola and Pharrell Williams.
The Chanel Connects series is available on all streaming platforms and Chanel’s official website.
