Lauv is channeling Miley Cyrus through a stripped cover of her song “Used to Be Young.”

On Thursday, the singer appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, where he performed a cover of Cyrus’ recent single backed by only his keyboard. “You tell me time has done changed me/That’s fine, I’ve had a good run,” he sang in the chorus. “I know I used to be crazy/That’s ‘causе I used to be young.”

Lauv’s sparkly nail polish could be seen floating over the keys as he hit the high notes throughout the ballad that Cyrus released last month in the video. The keyboard sonic setting was reminiscent of the opening notes of his song “Love U Like That,” which he also performed backed by an acoustic guitar during his visit to BBC Radio 1.

“Miley Cyrus, you are a queen,” he wrote on an Instagram story. “I covered ur song.” He also wrote about the Live Lounge: “Would be honored to come back forever.”

Lauv recently joined Bella Poarch for her single “Crush” and also performed “Steal the Show” from Pixar’s Elemental earlier this year. Lauv wrote the song with the film’s composers Thomas Newman and Michael Matosic, and he discussed the process in a recent chat with Rolling Stone at Governors Ball.

“It was great working with Thomas Newman — a super, super talented musician and composer,” Lauv said. “I was very intimidated during the whole process, and somehow we made a song!”

Lauv released his album All 4 Nothing last year, featuring songs like “Kids Are Born Stars,” “Molly in Mexico,” and “Stay Together.”

As for Cyrus, “Used to Be Young” was re-released as a digital single following the release of Endless Summer Vacation, which was led by “Flowers” and “Jaded.”
