Update: In June 2015, Caitlyn Jenner came out as a transgender woman. This content was written in April 2015 before Jenner publicly announced her full transition.
Bruce Jenner‘s decision to speak out about his transition from male to female has been met with messages of support from fans, friends, family and other celebrities.
The former Olympian, who was interviewed by Diane Sawyer in a two-hour episode of 20/20 on Friday, said he hoped that by speaking out, he would help other transgender people.
One person who knows about that journey is Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox, who last year became the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy.
And on Friday night she Tweeted a message to the 65-year-old.
“Sending lots of love and support of #BruceJenner and their family tonight,” she wrote. “It is always brave to stand in one’s truth. Congrats darling.”
Jenner’s transition will be chronicled in an eight-part docuseries premiering July 26 on E!
