Law & Order: SVU Promotes Kevin Kane Ahead of Season 26
Looks like Det. Bruno has proved his worth to Capt. Benson: Kevin Kane has been promoted to series regular at Law & Order: SVU, our sister site Deadline reports.
Bruno’s character debuted in Season 24, when Benson’s team became involved in a case under the jurisdiction of Bronx SVU, where Bruno then worked. The character eventually joined Liv and the gang in Manhattan, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Kane was a recurring cast member who last appeared in Season 25’s Episode 13.

In March, Kane told TVLine that he felt that series star Mariska Hargitay “put a little heavy hand on the scale” in terms of getting his character significant play on the show, because they’d gotten to know each other when she directed Season 20’s “Mea Culpa,” in which he guest-starred as the husband of a woman who accused then-ADA Peter Stone of rape. “That’s where we really bonded.”
Kane is an Emmy winner from his time as an executive producer on Inside Amy Schumer; his other TV credits include Life & Beth, FBI: Most Wanted and Chicago P.D.
In addition to Kane’s promotion, SVU has cast Juliana Aidén Martinez (Griselda) as a new detective. She also has appeared on 9-1-1, Prodigal Son, The Blacklist and The Mysteries of Laura. Martinez will be a series regular in the new season, TVLine has confirmed. Give Me My Remote first broke the news of Martinez’s status.
SVU returns for Season 26 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 9/8c. (Find out when your other favorite NBC shows will be back!)
