Law Roach reveals how Zendaya reacted to his sudden retirement, plans to focus on health
Celebrity stylist Law Roach will be focusing on his health after suddenly announcing his retirement from the fashion industry earlier this month.
Roach, who has styled celebrities like Zendaya and Celine Dion, addressed his exit from fashion in an interview with the Associated Press on the red carpet at the Fashion Trust US Awards Tuesday.
"I felt like that was the best way for me to walk away from the industry for a while to just, you know, work on my mental health and my physical health," Roach said.
He added that making the decision was difficult and "took a lot of courage."
"I’m actually proud of myself that, for the first time in years, I put myself first," Roach continued. "I’ve had nothing but good support and comments. So it’s making this transition a little bit easier for me."
Roach also clarified that his decision had nothing to do with "Euphoria" star Zendaya, whom he's styled for years, while appearing on Monday's episode of Emily Ratajkowski's podcast "High Low with Emrata."
"(Zendaya) called, and she said, ‘Girl, I thought we make big decisions together,' " Roach recalled Zendaya telling him after he announced his retirement.
Roach also said he's still grieving the death of his three-year-old nephew, who died in November 2021 after falling out of a window.
"Of course, (Zendaya) supported me," he continued. "She’s like, ‘Do you need me to send you on a vacation? Tell me what you’re going through,' and I talked to her about just being unhappy and being unhappy for a really long time and still grieving the death of my nephew. So, we had that talk, and she was like, ‘Whatever you need, whatever you need.' "
Celebrity stylist Law Roach makes runway appearance after announcing retirement
Roach, 44, took to Instagram on March 14 to share that his "cup is empty," along with an image of the word "Retired."
"Thank you to everyone who’ve supported me and my career over the years," he wrote in the since-deleted post. "Every person that trusted me with their image, I’m so grateful for you all."
Roach then hinted at some factors that led to his decision, without going into detail.
"If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not!" he continued. "The politics, the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win … I’m out."

A day after his retirement post, Roach walked as a runway model in the Boss Spring/Summer 2023 show in Miami. He also later cleared up some of the rumors spurred by his retirement announcement, which included speculation he had a falling out with Zendaya.
"So y’all really think I’m breaking up with Z….. we are forever," he tweeted March 14. He followed up with another tweet the next day writing, "She’s my little sister and it’s real love not the fake industry love."
The retirement announcement came less than a week after Roach attended Versace's Fall/Winter 2023 show at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California.
