Jennifer Aniston
Just like Rachel, Aniston herself has been in a few serious relationships that both ended with a trip down the aisle.
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt (1998 to 2005): Friends real life couples
Aniston and Pitt were a quintessential couple in the early 2000's. The two met in 1994, but didn't start dating until 1998, with their red carpet debut being in September 1999. Later that same year, they announced their engagement.
Flash forward to July 29, 2000, when the power couple tied the knot. A year later the two would make their onscreen debut in the season 8 episode of Friends, "The One After I do," with Aniston recalling "Mr. Pitt was wonderful."
Marking the start of Aniston and Pitt trying to start a family together was 2004, with the actress telling the The Guardian, " It's time. You know, I think you can work with a baby, I think you can work pregnant, I think you can do all of it. So I'm just truly looking forward to slowing down."
The two would go on divorce in 2005, however they remain friends to this day.
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux (2007 t0 2015)
Aniston's second — and most recent — marriage was to Justin Theroux. The two originally met in 2007, then formed a friendship in 2010. Romance rumors would soon begin to fly in May 2011 after they were seen out and about. That same year, Theroux would sit front row at Aniston's Imprint Ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
Aniston would confirm the dating rumors herself in 2012, with Theroux concurring and the couple getting engaged that same year. Their wedding day would be in August 2015.
Jump to February 2019, and the two announced their split, but can still be found hanging out platonically.
Courteney Cox
Monica had two very serious relationships during her time on the show — Richard and Chandler — and so did Courteney!
Courteney Cox and David Arquette (1996 to 2013): Friends real life couples
Cox and Arquette fell in love on the set of Scream in 1996, which they both starred in. They would also work together in that same year's season 3 episode of Friends, "The One with the Jam," but they didn't share any scenes.
They announced their engagement in September 1998, Cox and Arequtte getting married in June 1999. They were married for five years before their daughter, Coco, was born in June 2004.
Over the next eight years the two would have their ups and downs, including Arquette's stint in rehab in 2011. The couple would go on to officially file their divorce in 2012, with it being finalized in 2013.
Cox opened up about it, saying, "You can love somebody so much, but it's not the life you should be living together. I think David and I are supposed to be the way we are now. In divorce you always have regrets. We were married for a long time, so it's not like we [didn't] try."
The two still coparent Coco to this day.
Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid (2013 to present)
After her divorce, Cox began dating Snow Patrol singer Johnny McDaid in 2013 after they met at a party. Their road forward wasn't a smooth one, announcing their engagement in 2014, calling it off later that year, but then, in 2016, they would come back together, better than ever.
The couple is still together, with Cox saying, "He's [McDaid] a great advice-giver. I love his heart, his intentions. His morals. He's extremely talented and obviously musical, but he's a poet and a writer. He's just so smart, and I find that really sexy. And then he is gorgeous."
Lisa Kudrow
Phoebe might have had a lot of short-term relationships through the show's 10 seasons, but that certainly isn't the case for Kudrow, who has been married for almost 30 years.
Lisa Kudrow and Michel Stern (1995 to present): Friends real life couples
Kudrow and Stern officially met in college while he was dating her roommate, but the exact date of that remains a mystery. It clearly worked out for the best, though, because the two would go on to marry in 1995.
Three years later, they welcomed their only child. Kudrow's pregnancy did have to be written into season 4 of Friends, with the actress remembering, "The six of us would do a huddle backstage and just say, 'All right, have a good show, love you, love you, love you, love you.' And when I was pregnant, then they would say, 'Have a great show, love you, love you — love you, little Julian!' 'Cause we knew it was a boy and that was his name."
Julian is now 26 years old, and his parents remain happily married.
Matt LeBlanc
Despite his good looks, LeBlanc wasn't as much of a playboy as Joey Tribbiani. In fact, the actor has only been married once and it didn't even hit the five-year mark.
Matt LeBlanc and Melissa McKnight (1997 to 2006)
The details on LeBlanc and McKnight's relationship remain quite a mystery. The couple met in 1997 and got engaged the following year. They would marry in 2003, welcome their daughter Marina Pearl LeBlanc in 2004 and divorce in 2006.
The divorce was LeBlanc's fault, as he had an affair with Andrea Anders, his Joey costar. The divorced couple still remain co-parents to their now 20 year old daughter, which is LeBlanc's favorite job.
“I remember when my daughter, Marina, was born. The second I laid eyes on her, I was in love, and I had never felt that way before, I couldn’t believe it. I knew from that moment there was nothing that would ever stop me from loving her — even if she crashed my Ferrari.”
Matthew Perry
Sadly, Perry never found his real life Monica. The actor was in a lot of high profile relationships before his death, though. Some of note include Valerie Bertinelli, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz.
In his book Friends, Lovers and The Big Bad Terrible Thing, Perry said he was ready for marriage. He also detailed his relationship with Roberts, writing, "Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me. I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me. Why would she not? I was not enough; I could never be enough; I was broken, bent, unloveable."
Perry tragically died in 2023, but remains in Friends' fans hearts.
David Schwimmer
Ross Geller might have been divorced three times, but that certainly wasn't the case for Schwimmer, who was only married once — although, sadly, it did end in divorce.
David Schwimmer and Zoe Buckman (2010 t0 2017): Friends real life couples
Schwimmer and Buckman's relationship details are still rather murky. The couple married in 2010, then would welcome their only child (Cleo) in May 2011. They would remain together until their divorce in 2017, but still remain in each other's lives.
"Our priority is, of course, our daughter’s happiness and well-being during this challenging time,” the two said in a joint statement at the time of their divorce. "So we ask for your support and respect for our privacy as we continue to raise her together and navigate this new chapter for our family."
