LeBron James, Jimmy Butler to Feature in Netflix’s NBA Docuseries ‘Starting 5’
Five of the NBA biggest stars will be the focus of an upcoming Netflix docuseries that will provide “an unfiltered view of life at the pinnacle of professional basketball.”
Starting 5 will revolve around Los Angeles Lakers legend LeBron James, Minnesota Timberwolves’ rising star Anthony Edwards, and the title-winning Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum — all three just won gold medals with Team USA at the Paris Olympics — as well as the Miami Heat’s always-entertaining Jimmy Butler and Sacramento Kings rebound king Domantas Sabonis.

The streaming service previewed the docuseries with a teaser featuring a group chat between the five NBA all-stars:
“The series captures their battles on and off the court as they chase greatness, push through injuries, and balance the demands of family and legacy,” Netflix added in a synopsis. “James pushes himself harder than ever to stay healthy — and dominant — in his 21st season, while Edwards electrifies with his rapid rise. Butler’s relentless drive propels the Heat, Sabonis anchors the Kings with his versatile play, and Tatum leads the Celtics in their quest for a record 18th championship.”
The first season of Starting 5 — styled after Netflix’s hit NFL docuseries Quarterback — premieres Oct. 9 and will feature 10 episodes. The talent on the court is also matched with an all-star production team that includes James’ Uninterrupted, Peyton Manning’s Omaha, and Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground.
