‘Legacies’ Cast: Get to Know the Supernatural Stars of 'The Vampire Diaries' Spin-Off Show

In the realm of The Vampire Diaries spin-offs, none made fans more excited than Legacies. Not only did it take them back to Mystic Falls, Virginia, but it also gave them a look at what happened to the cast of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. The premise itself came from the mind of Julie Plec and followed Hope Mikaelson — the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Haley Marshall — as she attends The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. 

Legacies ran from 2018 until 2022 and had 68 thrilling episodes in total. And now, we’ve caught up with the vampires, witches, werewolves and hybrids and found out what the Legacies cast has been up to since they left the boarding school and entered the real world. Keep reading for more. 

Danielle Rose Russell

CHARACTER PLAYED: Hope Mikaelson

BEST KNOWN FOR: Aloha (2015), The Last Tycoon (2016 to 2017), Wonder (2017) and The Originals (2018). 

PERSONAL: Russell is from New Jersey. 

THOUGHTS ON LEGACIES: “When I look back [on] playing Hope, it’s beautiful to see the journey of this woman owning her power, learning how to properly navigate her power, stepping into her strengths and having the okay to be vulnerable… I can confidently say that she uses her vulnerability as her strength. I think that’s a lesson we could all learn from.” 

Kaylee Bryant: Legacies cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Josie Saltzman

BEST KNOWN FOR: Kickin’It (2012 to 2014), The Real O’Neals (2016), Santa Clarita Diet (2017 to 2018), The Journey Head (2022) and The Locksmith (2023). 

PERSONAL: Bryant is from Florida. 

THOUGHTS ON LEGACIES: “I initially auditioned for Josie and then, during chemistry reads, they started asking me to read for Lizzie. Wee had our final callback where I finally met Jenny [Boyd] and we both read for both roles. They never told us [who was playing who] until Jenny had her appointment to go dye her hair blonde.” 

Jenny Boyd

CHARACTER PLAYED: Lizzie Saltzman

BEST KNOWN FOR: Viking Quest (2015) and Hex (2018). 

PERSONAL: Boyd was born in Switzerland. 

THOUGHTS ON LEGACIES: “The character of Lizzie is so dynamic because she has a lot of vulnerability inside of her, but it manifests in a way that can be seen as lashing out and aggressive; but really, it has to do with her fragility… I think, more and more, she is seeing that she needs to change.” 

Quincy Fouse: Legacies cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: MG

BEST KNOWN FOR: Logan (2017), The Goldbergs (2016 to 2018), and All About the Washingtons (2018). 

PERSONAL: Fouse is from Florida. 

THOUGHTS ON LEGACIES: When asked what The Vampire Diaries or The Originals star he would like to have on Legacies, Fouse said, “ You know, it’s not for the right reasons, but Leah Marie Pipes just because I have a HUGE crush on her. I just want to go say hi, give her a hug, have some awkward small talk and never talk to her ever again because my heart wouldn’t be able to take it.” 

Matthew Davis

CHARACTER PLAYED: Alaric Saltzman

BEST KNOWN FOR: Legally Blonde (2001), What About Brian (2006 to 2007), Cult (2013) and The Vampire Diaries (2007 to 2013). 

PERSONAL: Davis has been married twice and has one child. 

THOUGHTS ON LEGACIES: When asked what his favorite part about playing Alaric is, Davis said, “I have always loved his earthiness and his pragmatic point of view. I love that he’s a history teacher. I love that he’s a protector and wants the universe to be in balance so that people can be at peace. As I’ve grown personally, he’s grown with me. It’s cool to come into my 40s with this character. How I’ve grown, how I’ve evolved, and how I see the world differently now will affect him.”
