One night in July 1958, when Miles Davis performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, the jazz visionary would blow the audience away with an iconic set that’d go down in history. But aside from the music, he also wore a pair of shades at the fest that would inspire a new collection by Southern California-based sunglasses brand Garrett Leight.

Out now, the Miles Davis x GLCO Collection marks a new exclusive pair of shades that jazz fans can buy in stores and online at garrettleight.com and milesdavis.com. Designed with oversized joint pins and rounded edges on the sides, the Miles Davis x Garrett Leight shades offer a modern spin on retro-inspired acetate frames, and come with their own case and a red cleaning cloth.

The sunglasses company teamed up with the Miles Davis Estate on the new drop, and says that the Miles Davis frames are “our expression of a 1950s eternally golden jazz club for today’s fashion visionaries.”

“Since I can remember music has been a huge part of me and my soundtrack to life is visceral,” the company’s founder Garrett Leight shared in a statement.
“I’m beyond honored to be able to collaborate with such an icon as Miles Davis,” Leight continued. “His music is transcendent and precedes him. It will live on to impress generations of influential people and everything they create. To have my name synonymous with his in any way is a career defining moment for me, and a milestone I thought I could only dream of.”

Though Garrett Leight’s no stranger to launching limited-edition pairs to commemorate an iconic artist — the company says it previously launched a collection with the Elvis Presley Estate nearly a decade ago — the just-released frames mark its first time teaming up with the Miles Davis Estate.
Garrett Leight’s new frames inspired by the jazz great and trumpeter are now available to buy starting at $385 on garrettleight.com — while supplies last.
