Lena Dunham takes out Andy Warhol on 'American Horror Story'
Lena Dunham made her long-awaited debut on American Horror Story: Cult this week as Valerie Solanas, the woman who, in real life, shot legendary artist Andy Warhol.
The star of the series, Evan Peters, who has been killing it as Kai Anderson, morphed into Warhol for this episode, who told Solanas, “Oh, Valerie … You know women can’t be serious artists.”
In the episode, outraged by Warhol, Solanas went to Warhol’s studio and fired at him three times. Her first two rounds missed him, but the third round was a straight shot to the chest just after she told him, “You had too much control over my life. Down with the patriarchy. Suck my d***, Warhol!”
She then went on to form a cult of girls, telling them, “Our fellow women will realize they have nothing to fear from the evolutionarily inferior male, and they are going to rise up and join us. But a few of these bitches are gonna have to die first.”
In real life, Solanas not only went down as the woman who attempted to assassinate Warhol, she also was regarded as a pioneer in the feminist effort after writing The Scum Manifesto, which was also portrayed in this episode. “SCUM stands for the Society for Cutting Up Men. Our goal is to kill all men who are not a part of the men’s auxiliary of scum,” said Solanas in a scene with her fellow feminists.
Of course, there were also many gruesome kill scenes in this episode, titled “Valerie Solanas Died for Your Sins: Scumbag,” which we all know is the best part of American Horror Story.
American Horror Story: Cult airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
