Leo Director Lokesh Kanagaraj in Legal Trouble for Making Violent Films
Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj is known for making off-beat movies with significant action sequences. The director recently collaborated with Thalapathy Vijay for their massive hit Leo. However, despite the film’s massive box office collection, things are not going in his favor. A plea has been filed in the court against the director for portraying extreme violence in his films.
Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Leo is allegedly based on the Hollywood film A History of Violence. It revolves around a family man with a bloody past. The film’s tagline is “Bloody Sweet” and consists of many violent sequences. However, this is not new for Tamil cinema as several movies feature such action sequences.
Here’s why Lokesh Kanagaraj fell into trouble.
Petition filed against Leo director Lokesh Kanagaraj
As per a report by India Today, a man named Raja Murugan has filed a petition against Kanagaraj, claiming that the moviemaker should be examined psychologically because of the extent of violence he adds to his movies. He further claims that the director glorified violence in Leo. Moreover, the film negatively impacts its audience as it portrays characters involved in illegal activities, police supporting crime, over-speeding, etc., as per the petitioner.
In the petition, Murugan also called out the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He asked them to pay more attention while issuing certificates to such violent movies. Concluding the petition, he mentioned that a psychological evaluation of Lokesh Kanagaraj should take place. Moreover, he pleaded with the court to take criminal action against the director.
Leo earned a whopping $72.08 million at its worldwide box office collection. After Leo, Lokesh Kanagaraj is now focusing on his next movie with Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth. The upcoming film is tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, and the director has promised never-seen-before action in the film. However, he has also mentioned that the movie will not revolve around drugs.
