Leon Bridges Visits ‘Peaceful Place’ Ahead Of New Album

Leon Bridges will return this fall with his fourth album, Leon, which was introduced today (Aug. 8) with the single “Peaceful Place.” The 13-track project will be released Oct. 4 via Columbia and was made with longtime Kacey Musgraves collaborators Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian at the Mexico City-area studio El Desierto.

It’s the follow-up to 2021’s Gold-Diggers Sound, which reached No. 17 on The Billboard 200. The following year, Bridges released Texas Moon, his second collaborative EP with instrumental rockers Khruangbin. He has another new song, “Chrome Cowgirl,” on the soundtrack to the hit film Twisters, which came out last month.

More from Spin:

Leon has been a long-time coming. I started writing pieces of it as far back as Gold-Diggers Sound. They didn’t fit what I was trying to do with that album and I tried moving on. But I couldn’t shake them because they’re part of me. And, if I’m honest, also because I think this is some of my most excellent work yet,” Bridges says of the new music, which is described as more autobiographical than anything he’s previously released.

“In many ways, Leon has been in the works since my childhood,” he continued. “This record is about simpler days. It’s about time spent in my beloved Fort Worth and the experiences that made me the man I am today. It’s soulful music in the truest sense — it’s imbued with my soul. I’m excited to share these stories about my home, about nostalgia, about my upbringing, about where I’m from, with all of you. I hope this music brings you back to your roots and your journey.”

Having played live only a handful of times this year, Bridges will be back in action at the Austin City Limits festival in October and the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City in November.
