Leonardo DiCaprio Responds to Oscar Buzz for 'The Revenant'

On Today Thursday, Leonardo DiCaprio — who’s garnering lots of Oscar buzz for his performance in The Revenant — was asked the inevitable question about awards surrounding the film. Specifically, the Academy Awards, for which he has been nominated four times without a win.

“Honestly I do these movies because I really love movies and I want to make great movies. All that stuff is totally beyond your control, it really is,” replied DiCaprio when asked if he is hopeful for an Oscar.

The actor also commented on how rare it is for films like The Revenant to come out of the studio system, which is why he is pushing so hard for the film to do well, regardless of any recognition he might receive. Although some theorize Academy voters are experiencing fatigue from DiCaprio’s incessant campaigning, indications are this might finally be his year.

The gold lining in all of this is that he has won two Golden Globe awards, and it is up for another one this Sunday. Spoiler: he’s wearing a “boring black suit as always.”
