LFO's Devin Lima dies at 41 after yearlong battle with cancer
Devin Lima died early Wednesday morning at age 41 after battling an aggressive form of cancer, according to reports. He was one third of the popular ’90s band LFO, short for Lyte Funky Ones, the group responsible for hits like “Summer Girls,” “Girl on TV” and “Every Other Time.”
In October 2017, Lima underwent surgery to remove a “football-sized tumor” that had engulfed his kidney and adrenal gland.
“Surgery was great,” Lima’s bandmate, Brad Fischetti, shared at the time. “The tumor was the size of a football. But [surgery] was smooth; they didn’t have to take out some of the organs they thought they would.”
The surgeons were able to save all of his internal organs except his kidney and adrenal gland; however, the tumor was cancerous. In a second update days later, Fischetti told fans that doctors officially diagnosed Lima with primary adrenal cancer, calling it, “A one in a million cancer.”
Fischetti added, “Adrenal cancer is very aggressive, and they’re concerned that there may be cancer cells present within his body. That’s why they want to attack it with chemo and radiation.”
“I wish we had better news to share,” Fischetti added. “It’s devastating news, but at the same time, there’s nobody I know stronger than Devin Lima. No one has a stronger body, mind or soul, and if anybody can defeat this, it’s Devin.”
Lima and Fischetti were planning to hit the road for another leg of their Rich in Love tour but had to postpone due to the singer’s health problems. They wanted to carry on LFO’s legacy after the group’s third member, Rich Cronin, died in 2010. The lead singer was diagnosed with leukemia in 2005 and suffered a fatal stroke five years later related to the disease. He was 35.
