Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy fled Argentina solo 2 days before singer’s death
Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, left Argentina just days before he fell from the third floor of his hotel balcony to his death at 31.
The former One Direction singer passed away on Wednesday, several local news outlets confirmed.
Payne’s body was found in the inner courtyard of the hotel, where he was pronounced dead, according to local law enforcement per “Good Morning America.”
Payne and his girlfriend shared several photos from their vacation and seemed happy to be in each other’s company prior to the tragedy. However, Cassidy posted a TikTok video on Monday traveling back to her home state of Florida without the singer by her side.
Cassidy shared she was “so ready to leave” after spending two weeks there with Payne. She also stated they were only supposed to be in Argentina for “five days,” adding that she hates to be in one place for too long and “needed to go home.”
In a twist of fate, Cassidy’s seat on the way home was 1D.
She appeared to be in a good mood about her return to the States, saying she was “happy” and “relieved” to be back in Florida.
Sadly, Cassidy only mentioned Payne’s name once in the video, sharing that she left her Squishmallow, a stuffed toy, behind for him.
As of this post, she has not addressed his death, nor has anyone revealed why he stayed behind in Buenos Aires. The couple traveled to the city earlier this month to support Payne’s former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan at his concert.
The singer was first linked to the social media influencer in October 2022. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in January 2023.
Before Cassidy, Payne was engaged to Maya Henry from 2020 to 2021.
He also famously dated singer Cheryl Cole, with whom he shares his only child: son Bear, 7.
Days before Payne’s death, he shared Snapchats of his time in Argentina with Cassidy. In one photo, he joked about a potential Halloween costume. In another, the singer said he was having “a lovely day.”
At this point, it’s unclear if Payne’s fall was intentional or accidental.
The Post obtained photos showing emergency crews, police officers and a forensics team arriving at the hotel.
TMZ published a partial image of Payne’s arm lying on a wooden deck and matched up his tattoos. Eyewitnesses claim the ex-One Direction singer was “acting erratic” in the hotel lobby before his death.
He reportedly smashed his computer and was carried back to his room prior to the tragedy.
The Post has reached out to Payne’s reps.
He rose to fame alongside his bandmates Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles in 2010 after appearing on “The X Factor.”
Malik left One Direction to start his solo career in 2015 while in the middle of their world tour. At that time, the band claimed they weren’t splitting up.
“Ok so Lots of rumours going round,” wrote Horan. “We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year.”
Payne echoed this bandmate’s reaction, telling fans, “So glad everything has been cleared up today and ur support with it is amazing not that we could ever expect anything less your amazing.” He also promised “so much more to come.”
Despite the promises, One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016 so the other members could also begin releasing music independently.
