Lil Rel Howery, Katt Williams Join Cast Of Keke Palmer And SZA’s Buddy Cop Film

KeKe Palmer and SZA’s buddy cop film is making waves with a slew of high-profile additions to its cast, as Lil Rel Howery, Katt Williams, Janelle James, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and more talent have signed on for the anticipated project. Other stars set to appear in the untitled film include Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Maude Apatow.

Directed by Lawrence Lamont, the film’s screenplay is penned by Syreeta Singleton, who is also serving as a co-producer. The project is being produced by a powerhouse team: Hoorae’s Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi, ColorCreative’s Deniese Davis, and Macro Film Studios’ Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks.

Singleton is joined in co-producing by Big Boss’ Palmer and Sharon Palmer, who are also serving as executive producers.

Boasting a list of Emmy Award-winning thespians, the forthcoming film is set to pick up where Palmer and SZA’s appearance on Saturday Night Live, which Palmer hosted and SZA served as the musical guest, left off and resume the chemistry captured between the two. The movie will also mark the acting debut of SZA, who looks to build upon her success as a recording artist as she makes her foray into Hollywood.

This is not the first time that SZA has been connected to an acting project, as she was slated to appear in Eddie Huang’s Tuna Melt in 2022. However, that film, which also stars Euphoria star Chloe Cherry, has yet to materialize.

News of SZA’s acting aspirations first surfaced in 2021 when Annie Bercy, the Grammy Award winner’s photographer/videographer, announced that she was transitioning into Hollywood in a post on social media. “Everything @sza touch turn into gold,” Bercy wrote at the time. “My girl is now adding ‘actress’ to her repertoire, congratulations babe.”
