Lil Wayne’s Engineer And Fans Disappointed Kendrick Lamar Was Chosen As Super Bowl LIX Halftime Performer In New Orleans

Kendrick Lamar made history when he announced he would perform at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans, but everyone wasn’t happy about it. Fabian Marasciullo, engineer for Lil Wayne, and Weezy’s fans expressed their disappointment in the fact the hometown hero wasn’t picked for the occasion.

“Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired,” Marasciullo wrote in an Instagram story. “Will never again be in a position or have the [goat emoji] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone elses decision. We will make the decisions.”

Internet users had a myriad of reactions, whether they were Weezy fans, K. Dot haters, Drake stans, any combination of the three, or none of the above. “Lil Wayne def should’ve been picked to perform at the SuperBowl,” one user wrote. “He’s literally from New Orleans and a rap legend…”

“The NFL disrespected Lil Wayne lowkey,” another user wrote. Wrestler A.J. Francis expressed a similar sentiment, though he clarified that he had no disrespect for Kendrick Lamar. “Listen… I’m not hating on KDot hosting the Super Bowl Halftime show… he’s definitely a big enough artist with enough hits to deserve it,” he wrote. “But NOBODY should be headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans over Lil Wayne… NO F**KING BODY.”

It wasn’t all defense of Weezy F Baby, though. One X user believed that people were channeling their defense of Drake into anger for the “Fireman” artist being slighted. “Using Lil Wayne as a proxy to attack Kendrick Lamar’s legitimacy as a popular artist because your golden calf lays broken is nasty work,” they wrote.

Other users questioned Wayne’s performance mettle or his admitted trouble in remembering his lyrics. “Lmao Lil Wayne has admitted to not remembering his f**king lyrics but he’s supposed to headline the Super Bowl. Alright man,” one person wrote. “I love Lil Wayne. I think people are greatly overestimating Lil Wayne’s ability to put on a full length performance in 2024,” another user wrote.

Several fans suggested that Kendrick Lamar could, and should, bring out Lil Wayne as a special guest; given his admitted affinity for Weezy, their collaborative history, and the Super Bowl taking place in his hometown, it would make sense. However, other people believed that it would be insufficient for Tuncehi to be anything but the headliner.

Nonetheless, K. Dot got the look. He will be the first rapper to headline the Super Bowl halftime show solo, the first rapper to perform twice at the Super Bowl, and the first artist to perform twice within the same decade. His first appearance came in 2022 when he linked up with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige.

In the promotion for his performance, he claimed that there were “no round twos” which was taken as a shot at Drake following his promotion of “game two” of their feud on his burner Instagram account. Watch K. Dot’s announcement of his Super Bowl performance below.
