Lil Wayne Labels Himself The LeBron James Of Rap

Lil Wayne’s dominance and longevity in Hip-Hop have been amazing to witness, especially after several years of issues with Birdman and Cash Money that stifled his progression. The New Orleans rapper likened his career in Hip-Hop to LeBron James’ NBA career during a recent interview.

“I do me the best. I would say that I’m like a LeBron,” Weezy F Baby told Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks when asked about what he does best. “The phenom. I dropped my first solo album when I was 14, and that’s the same album I’m talking about that went platinum. So the phenom that came out and I stuck something that came out. And I’ve been doing this at this pace or higher ever since, just like him.”

The “A Milli” rapper also likened his ability at this point of his career to Tom Brady. “You remember Tom Brady was, I mean every year, even though he was still winning the Super Bowl, it was ‘Is this the year he’s gonna retire?'” Wayne said. “We don’t even say that about [LeBron James] because we don’t want you to retire. That’s what I’m saying. I kind of look at that as when people ask me like ‘When Tha Carter VI coming out?’ I’m like ‘God damn it!’ That’s six of ’em. And they still want it.”

Lil Wayne’s consistency continued in 2023. In November, he shared Welcome 2 Collegrove with 2 Chainz. The 21-track collaborative LP featured Usher, 21 Savage, Rick Ross, Benny The Butcher, and more.

Wayne also gave fans something to hold them over until his forthcoming album Tha Carter VI comes out. In September, he shared Tha Fix Before Tha VI, a 10-track offering featuring Jon Batiste, Cool & Dre, and more.

Of course, the legendary wordsmith has been active on features as well. He most recently appeared on “Hallelujah Heaven” with Jeymes Samuel, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks. In September, he joined YG and Tyga on “Brand New.”
