Lily Allen blazed a recording career with canny, politically-charged, take-no-prisoners songs which earned the Brit a reputation as one of her generation’s brightest young artists. The music has gone rather quiet since her spectacularly titled 2014 set Sheezus, but Allen is finally back. And she’s picked up right where she left off.

The singer and songwriter has dropped another mature, zeitgeist statement, this time wrapped in a cover of Rufus Wainwright’s 2007 song “Going to a Town.”

The mood is set from the opening lyric: “I’m going to a town that has already been burnt down/I’m going to a place that has already been disgraced/I’m gonna see some folks who have already been let down I’m so tired of America.”

Grammy and Brit Award-winner Mark Ronson produced the track, which is accompanied by a clip loaded with stirring, black-and-white footage from last weekend’s London leg of the global Women’s March, where protestors held aloft signs declaring “No to racism, no to Trump” and “Dump Trump, fight bigotry”.

Allen participated in the march and her performance for the gathered masses was captured in the video which can be seen below.
