Lionel Messi is leading Inter Miami CF into the 2024 MLS playoffs, but the soccer legend is also making moves off the pitch with the debut of his very first fragrance.

Appropriately named “Messi Eau de Parfum,” the new fragrance is inspired by the athlete’s “dynamic presence and vitality,” per a release, with notes of cardamom, apple leaf, wild cypress, leather and cedarwood. The resulting scent is at once fresh and warm, designed to be worn everyday. An accompanying product description says the ingredients are meant to “evoke a sense of confidence and strength akin to Messi himself,” while bringing out the “hidden strengths and quiet confidence that resides within us all.”

The fragrance is packaged in a sleek blue glass bottle molded with the Messi logo on the side. The accompanying campaign photo, meantime, features various versions of a sharply-dressed Messi walking down a mirrored hallway.

Fragrance group Game On says they first discussed a collaboration with Messi in March of 2023, with both in-person and video conversations with the soccer star taking place over the next few months. The deal was officially signed “after giving a two-hour presentation in South Beach with interpreters,” a rep for the company tells Rolling Stone.

In a press release, Messi says he has “always been passionate about fragrance,” and Game On says the athlete was actively involved in the entire process, from first sharing the scents he enjoys wearing, to developing and testing various fragrance profiles based on his preferences. The next step was coming up with a name for the cologne, and Game On says everyone quickly realized that there was only one clear answer: “Messi is the GOAT, the most famous athlete on the planet,” the company says. “His name inspires people from all demographics and from every corner of the globe. ‘Messi’ embodies not only greatness and strength, but most of all aspiration and humility.”

The soccer star says he’s excited to finally unveil his eau de parfum to the world. “I have always been passionate about fragrance, and I am extremely excited to produce my very own signature scent,” he says. “This is truly a unique and inspirational fragrance, in a personalized bottle, for all fans around the world.”

And while the fresh and crisp fragrance is geared toward men, Messi notes that “we have had so many women try it and love it.” The scent, he says, “is truly for everyone.”
