Next year, Blackpink Lisa will officially make her acting debut when HBO premieres the highly-anticipated third season of The White Lotus. The musician — and now actress — recently revealed that she kept the entire audition process a secret from her friends and family. She also found herself facing the nerves that come with navigating unfamiliar territory.

“I think I cried,” Lisa told Elle about the moment she found out that the role was hers. “I was with my friends, my mom’s friends, and my mom as well, but I didn’t tell them that I auditioned for it.” Her exact role has not yet been revealed, with creator Mike White keeping his cards close to his chest outside of a brief teaser trailer. “I think he’s a genius,” Lisa said of White.

Still, she felt a mix of emotions in the face of the accomplishment. “I’m super excited and nervous, because it’s my first acting project,” Lisa continued. “So I was happy for a second, and then I was like, ‘Oh, wait, wait, how am I going to deliver this?'”

Lisa is an expert on the stage and in the studio, and learning to be on a television set did provide her with a few chances to draw comparisons. Plus, she had the benefit of shooting in her home country. “It’s pretty new to me, but I think it’s similar to shooting music videos,” she shared. “I’m excited for my fans to see it. I feel like people are going to fall in love with Thailand even more.”

By the time The White Lotus returns, Lisa will likely have shifted back into Blackpink mode. The quartet recently renewed their contract with YG. “Of course, we’re continuing, for sure,” Lisa shared. “We’re so proud of Blackpink, and I love Blackpink. It is not just because of our fans, it’s for ourselves… There was no doubt. This is our life.”
