A new live album from Gregg Allman Band titled Uncle Sam’s is being released on September 20th via Sawrite/The Orchard. It will mark the first offering from the late Gregg Allman’s personal archives.
Gregg Allman Band – Uncle Sam’s is a full-length concert recording of the group’s performance on July 1st, 1983 at Uncle Sam’s in Hull, Massachusetts. Highlights from that evening include Allman’s solo tracks “Queen of Hearts” and “Sweet Feelin’,” as well as reworkings of Allman Brothers Band classics like “Midnight Rider” and “Melissa.”
In advance of the release, you can hear the live recording of “Midnight Rider” below. Pre-order your CD copy of Gregg Allman Band – Uncle Sam’snow.
By 1983, Allman had released two solo albums, Laid Back and Playin’ Up a Storm, and was looking to further establish himself outside of the Allman Brothers Band, who had broken up for the second time. The musician toured heavily with the Gregg Allman Band throughout the year, setting him on a path toward the height of his success with the 1987 surprise hit “I’m No Angel.”
Allman died in May 2017 at the age of 69 due to complications from liver cancer.
