Liza Minnelli is setting the record straight about the projects which inspired her, in part, to write her upcoming memoir.

On Aug. 6, the EGOT winner, 78, announced exclusively with PEOPLE that she will publish her long-awaited memoir in spring 2026.

"Since I was old enough to put pencil to paper, people asked me to write books about my career ... my life ... my loves ... my family," Minnelli said. "Absolutely not! 'Tell it when I'm gone!' Was my philosophy. So, why did I change my mind? A sabotaged appearance at the Oscars, in front of billions of people ... a film with twisted half-truths ... a recent miniseries that just didn't get it right. All made by people who didn't know my family, and don't really know me.”

Today, the entertainer wants to clarify that the projects that she was referring to were not family-sanctioned projects, as she says in a new exclusive statement shared with PEOPLE.

“I asked my friends at People Magazine to help me set the record straight after a whirlwind of speculation in hundreds of outlets around the world about my news this past week regarding my upcoming book, co-authored with my baby Michael Feinstein,” Minnelli says. “I’ve been upset about ‘films with twisted half-truths’ and ‘a recent miniseries that just didn’t get it right.’ Let me set the record straight: when I said that, I wasn’t speaking about any projects, films or a recent documentary, involving my beloved sister and brother, Lorna and Joey, or myself.”

As Minnelli explains, she is not referring to her 2024 documentary, Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 12, for which Minnelli was interviewed, along with her family. At this stage, the star is not specifying exactly which projects she will write about, though they will be revealed in her upcoming memoir.

“Oh, no! Which ones were awful?” says Minnelli. “You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out who and what I was talking about! Keep your eyes and ears open, darlings!”

Minnelli’s forthcoming memoir will cover the legend’s life and career, including her childhood as the daughter of the late entertainer Judy Garland and film director Vincente Minnelli, and her rise to stardom following her iconic roles in Cabaret and Liza with a Z. The memoir will also cover her history with substance abuse and her “high-octane” marriages.

“Thank you all for loving me so much ... being concerned about me,” said Minnelli in her book announcement. “I want you to know I'm still here, still kickin' ass, still loving life and still creating. So, until this book arrives, know that I'm laughing, safe in every way, surrounded by loved ones, and excited to see what's right around the curve of life. Kids, wait 'til you hear this!"
