Lizzo Announces Plan For “Gap Year” To Protect Her Peace

Lizzo is taking some time off. The singer announced plans for a “gap year” in a new post on Instagram.

Sharing a clip of herself enjoying a tropical rainfall, the Grammy-winning performer revealed her next move, or lack thereof, in the caption.

“I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace,” detailed the 36-year-old in the Sunday morning (Aug 25) post.

Pictures uploaded days prior showcase the “Good As Hell” singer in a black, two-piece swimsuit with the captions “Unfortunately I’ll be posting way too many bikini pics,” and “Bi**h I’m in Bali! What should I do???” She did not clarify if her break would be a full, 365 days or if she would spend the entire time on the Indonesian island.

The hiatus comes after Lizzo expressed a desire to quit earlier this year. In April, she frustratingly vented “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.” Lizzo noted that her initial goal was “to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it,” but she feels “the world” is better off without her.

The following day she clarified, “when I say I quit, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people.”

Last year, Lizzo found herself at the center of litigation regarding allegations of sexual harassment and weight shaming by former employees. The dancers suing the pop star called the aforementioned “I quit” post “a joke” according to Entertainment Weekly.

According to Billboard, As of March 2024, Judge Mark H. Epstein ordered the case “stayed” as Lizzo attempts to appeal his January ruling, which rejected her efforts to dismiss the lawsuit under California’s anti-SLAPP statute.
