Lizzo is prioritizing her own well-being after a tumultuous year of allegations and “cancelations.”

The “Good as Hell” superstar recently opened up about her renewed mindset during a panel at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit on Monday (Oct. 14). While there, Lizzo revealed that she’s taking a step back from the spotlight to protect her peace.

“I’ve been canceled for everything at this point,” she declared, while sharing the epiphany: “Only God can cancel me now.” The pop powerhouse also emphasized her commitment to discussing subjects that truly matter to her, while also setting clear boundaries for how she engages with the public going forward.

“I think that I talk about the things that are important to me, and I talk about the things that I can bring a difference to, and I think those are my boundaries now with the public,” she said.

Lizzo’s new introspection comes on the heels of a legal allegations that shook the industry last year.

In August 2023, the “Rumors” songstress faced a lawsuit from three former dancers who alleged she created an “abusive work environment” and weight-shamed them, which she vehemently denied. “These last few days have been gut-wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing,” she expressed on social media following the allegations. “My work ethic, morals, and respectfulness have been questioned.”

Lizzo also pointed out that the accusations stemmed from former employees who had previously admitted to having inappropriate behavior on tour with her. “Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed,” she fiercely responded. “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

In March of this year, the 36-year-old shared that public scrutiny had taken a toll on her. She shared her frustrations on Instagram, stating, “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy.”

She added, “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views … being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”

At the time, Lizzo hinted at stepping back from all the chaos while also making it clear that she’s not exiting the music scene. “I’m gonna keep moving forward, I’m gonna keep being me. Once again I just want to say thank you. The love that I’ve received means more than you know,” she affirmed, adding that she’s disregarding “any negative attention.”
