Long-awaited Hive restaurant opens in West Palm Beach near Norton Museum
Just in time for spring, a sunny new bakery café has sprouted up in West Palm Beach. The long-awaited Hive Bakery and Café makes its official debut Tuesday, March 8.
Expect plenty of Hive style and attention to detail, from the custom packaging of pastries to the valet parking that’s available and complimentary from 9 a.m. on.
The stylish café is part of the Hive Collective family of coastal chic home-and-design trade and retail shops across from the Norton Museum. The eatery is the brainchild of Hive’s owner, Palm Beach interior designer Sara McCann, who helped spark the design district when she opened the first Hive-brand retail shop eight years ago.
With indoor and outdoor seating areas, the café will serve breakfast and lunch, plus quick bites and grab-and-go items. The plan is to offer prepared dinners for takeout as well, although a date for that hasn’t been announced.
Hive Bakery and Café’s kitchen is led by executive chef Jay Felton and executive pastry chef Amber Felton, a husband-and-wife team most recently from San Francisco.
Hive Bakery menu
The Feltons’ breakfast menu at Hive reads like that of an upmarket hotel. Its varied range of options include baskets of baked goods (think apricot-ginger scones), veggie frittatas, smoked salmon with all the fixings and fancy avocado toast.
At lunch, the menu goes from light bites (like poached asparagus with chopped egg and chimichurri) to heftier entrée salads to a selection of toasty or cool sandwiches (like wagyu steak on ciabatta with horseradish aioli, deviled egg salad on griddled brioche, and tarragon chicken salad on a croissant) to plated entrees (like wood-grilled chicken breast with Vidalia onion jus, broccoli and crispy potatoes).

Chef Amber Felton’s pastry menu includes a wide batch of morning and afternoon treats – muffins, filled croissants, breads and scones, then cookies, cupcakes, brownies and other sweets. Plenty of pastries and baked goods to take home as well: breads, cakes, candies, tarts, bars and more.
For now, chef Jay Felton’s full savory menu will be offered until 2:30 p.m. with beverages and grab-and-go options (like salads and sandwiches) available until 5 p.m.
The new bakery and café had been operating under reduced, soft-opening hours before closing briefly to finalize construction details.
Starting Tuesday, its operating hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
