A Look at Ella Emhoff’s Eclectic Shoe Journey Over the Years

Ella Emhoff, daughter of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, has become a fixture in the fashion world in recent years. Since making waves with her tartan Miu Miu coat at the 2021 inauguration of President Joe Biden, where her stepmother Kamala Harris was sworn in as vice president, Emhoff has been deemed a style icon — and that title certainly encompasses footwear.
The artist and model’s eclectic wardrobe includes a range of shoes, from classic black boots to flats from sustainable brand Vivaia. She’s also walked the runway for many luxury brands, including Coach during New York Fashion Week in September 2024.

To go with her red Batsheva dress and the aforementioned tartan Miu Miu jacket with shoulder embellishments and Peter Pan collar, Emhoff wore a pair of black boots befitting of January weather in D.C — they were a pair she already had in her closet.
Emhoff participated in a conversation during 2021 NYFW wearing slouchy black trousers, a colorful shirt with a tie-dye-esque print and a pair of pristine white shoes with a rounded toe.
The Parsons graduate made her Met Gala debut in 2021 with a striking monochrome look in a firetruck red hue. She wore an outfit by Stella McCartney for Adidas, which included a fitted top with swirling mesh cutouts and a pair of slouchy pants; the look was completed by platform sneakers crafted in part with recycled materials.
Emhoff went for a flowing boho look at the WSJ Innovator Awards with a loosely fitted white dress; a frayed hem brought a distressed energy to the ensemble. She contrasted this piece with a pair of chunky black shoes with an exaggerated curvy sole.
Emhoff embraced the socks and heels trend at a party hosted by Harper’s Bazaar and Bloomingdales in September 2022. She wore green socks with light blue block heel pumps to blend with her Thom Browne look in shades of aqua and seafoam.
Emhoff walked the runway for Coach during NYFW in 2024 wearing a pair of dainty ballerina shoes to match a miniskirt, an “I heart NY” shirt and a classic leather jacket. The shoes were adorned with a delicate bow in front.
Attending the Tory Burch spring 2025 show in September 2024, Emhoff looked stylish in the brand’s Pierced XL Pump, which features rounded hardware on the upper. She paired the shoes with Burch’s shower cap-inspired dress made from nylon taffeta.
