The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra sets the musical mood on Saturday with A Summer's Midday Dream, Gustav Mahler's stirring 3rd Symphony.
Adderley Amphitheater lifts it up with swaying and swinging to heavenly gospel this weekend for the two-day Jubilee Music Festival.

1. Reach for 'Dream' with Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra
The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra greets the season with Mahler Three: A Summer's Midday Dream at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. There's an open dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets for the concert run from $35-$64. Visit tallahasseesymphony.org.
With six movements, Mahler’s colossal 3rd Symphony is one of the greatest works in the standard symphonic repertoire. A hymn to nature, “summer’s midday dream” will take you on a journey from the earthly to the divine. Maestro Darko Butorac will lead this epic work performed live by over 150 musicians, all led by Maestro Darko Butorac.
2. Lift your spirits at Jubilee Music Festival
Get ready for two days of singing and rejoicing at the Jubilee Music Festival at the Adderley Amphitheater in Cascades Park on March 22-23. The extraordinary lineup of gospel music luminaries includes The Clark Sisters, Jekalyn Carr, Todd Dulaney, Pastor Mike Jr., and Yolanda Adams. Local church choirs and praise and worship teams will also be invited to participate during the weekend. Be sure to select Friday, Saturday or both nights when purchasing tickets. The event is in partnership with the FWPC Community Development Council.
Friday's show starts at 6 p.m. and features Lisa Knowles-Smith, The Brown Singers, Yolanda Adams and Todd Dulaney. TIckets are $35 for general admission, $45 for P2 Reserved Seating, $55 for P1 Reserved Seating.

3. Time travel at Tallahassee History Festival
Everything is history for the bicentennial year as the Third Annual Tallahassee History Festival kicks off this weekend. Tallahassee Community College and Theater with a Mission team up to bring history, science, the arts, and lots of fun to Kleman Plaza from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday March 23.
Have your picture taken with Pricilla the Mastadon. Make a map. Join a parade. Visit tables and while learning something get a passport stamped. Listen to speakers, taste some food, learn historic dances, meet people from 200 years ago. The free event offers fun for both K-12, college students and the whole family. 4. Take a Free Day at Mission San Luis
Get a big dose of Native American history and heritage at a free celebration from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Mission San Luis, 2100 W. Tennessee St. The mission is celebrating Florida Archaeology Month 2024 with a day of archaeology, living history and fun activities at Mission San Luis.
Events include archaeology-related activities for the whole family, including a copper embossing craft, archaeological soil sifting, atlatl spear throwing, and archaeological surveying. There will be guided tours of the Bureau of Archaeological Research Collections Facility, presentations by archaeologists, and information tables from partner organizations. Visit missionsanluis.org.
5. Make merry with music at Blue Tavern
Get your weekend started with the tasteful selection of tunes by Steve Malono and friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Blue Tavern, 1206 N. Monroe St.
Then make way for RoboCromp, the long-running duo of Atlanta saxophonist Jeff Crompton and Tallahassee guitarist Rob Rushin-Knopf, taking the stage at 8 p.m. Since 2004, their blend of jazz, rock, and folk music of the world has captivated listeners. They combine original compositions with works by the likes of Thelonious Monk, Cecil Taylor, Steve Lacy, and more. $10 cover.
The 4th Saturday Old Time Jam gets cranking from 4-7 p.m. Saturday with hosts Laura Gayle Green and Steve Hodges, that's followed at 8 p.m. by Jazzmatazz presents the Peterson-Bakan-Hall trio. Class is back in session and the professors are in the house with Bill Peterson on piano, joined by Brian Hall on bass and Michael Bakan on drums. $10 cover.

Bonus event: Suwannee Spring Reunion gathers at the river
The twangtastic annual Suwannee Spring Reunion gets some spicy R&B tang this weekend when Bettye LaVette makes her debut appearance at the gathering of Americana artists and fans on Friday.
LaVette is a Motor City music legend whose latest album, “LaVette!,” delves into the deep songbook of singer-songwriter Randall Bramblett. She’ll take the stage at 6 p.m. Friday on the Amphitheatre Stage at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park on the banks of the Suwannee River in Live Oak.
The lineup also includes Suwannee Spring Reunion stalwarts Donna the Buffalo, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Jim Lauderdale, Peter Rowan, Verlon Thompson, Keller Williams and many more. For ticket and camping information, visit suwanneespringreunion.com.
Bonus event: Cello Quartet closes Thomasville series
Thomasville Entertainment Foundation’s 86th concert series concludes next week with a unique classical musical ensemble, the Galvin Cello Quartet.
The international group takes the stage at the Thomasville Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at and seats are still available for the concert, featuring a diverse program of works by Antonio Vivaldi, David Popper, Richard Wagner, Gioachino Rossini and Carlos Gardel, among others.
