‘LOTR’: Prime Video Gives ‘Rings Of Power’ Viewership Update Ahead Of Season 2 Finale
Prime Video gave an updated viewership figure for both seasons of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Wednesday.
To date, Season 1 has attracted more than 150M global viewers, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said during the streamer’s UK Upfront presentation in London. She added that the UK is among the top regions in terms of the series’ viewership.

So far, Season 2 has managed 55M global viewers ahead of the finale, Salke said. The Season 2 finale airs on Thursday.
It’s likely that Salke is actually referring to the number of accounts that watched, as opposed to actual number of viewers, since it would be impossible for Amazon to measure how many people were viewing at the time an account was streaming the content — a capability that Nielsen has due to its own data on how many people live in the households the company measures. Amazon tends to report “viewers” for successful titles, but has declined to offer clarification on this point.
Prime Video is expecting more “growth and momentum” for Season 2 over time, though as Deadline previously reported, the series has been struggled to retain a large portion of its Season 1 audience. Samba TV data shows that the Season 2 premiere episode drew half the audience that the first episode of Season 1 drew in less time.
Nielsen data also shows an audience decline. Even though the series drew just over 1B minutes viewed in the week Season 2 premiered, it was a decline from the Season 1 debut week, despite the fact that more episodes being available this time around.
When Season 1 debuted in September 2022, it forged the largest premiere audience ever for Prime Video — and it still holds that record to date.
