Louis Partridge Will Not Star in Greta Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia Adaptation for Netflix

Update: Contrary to a previous report from Deadline, Louis Partridge has not been cast in the forthcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, a representative from Netflix tells Teen Vogue. We regret the error and will report more news about the adaptation once casting announcements have been shared by Netflix.
Previously:
Louis Partridge is having quite an eventful few weeks. After making his public couple debut with Olivia Rodrigo at the Venice Film Festival while promoting Apple TV+’s Disclaimer, the British actor has now reportedly landed a major role in Greta Gerwig's highly-anticipated adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix.
On September 2, 2024, Baz Bamigboye broke the news of Louis Partridge’s casting via Deadline. Though no details about his role have been officially released, IMDb has Partridge credited for the role of Digory Kirke at the time of writing. (Note: IMDb has now removed this credit from the film's page.)
Digory Kirke appears as an adult in 2005’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, portrayed by Jim Broadbent. In C. S. Lewis's original fantasy series, he makes appearances in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Magician's Nephew, and The Last Battle. The Magician's Nephew actually serves as a prequel novel in the series. It takes place 1000 years before the events in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and serves as Narnia's origin story.
Fresh off the success of Barbie, the New Yorker announced in July 2023 that Greta Gerwig would be adapting C. S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia into “at least two movies” for Netflix after the company acquired the rights to the franchise in 2018.
In an interview with Time in February 2024, Gerwig revealed that she had been working on the project even before Barbie started production. Netflix’s CEO Ted Sarandos said at the time that Gerwig’s take on the beloved franchise “won’t be counter to how the audience may have imagined those worlds but it will be bigger and bolder than they thought.”
“As a child, you accept the whole thing — that you’re in this land of Narnia, there’s fauns, and then Father Christmas shows up. It doesn’t even occur to you that it’s not schematic,” Gerwig said about the source material. “I’m interested in embracing the paradox of the worlds that Lewis created, because that’s what’s so compelling about them."
Partridge will work alongside Gerwig in a still-unnamed coming-of-age dramedy by Noah Baumbach, which will debut on Netflix. Baumbach, Gerwig’s husband, has cast both Partridge and Gerwig in undisclosed roles alongside George Clooney and Adam Sandler, among many others. Partridge is also working on the limited series House of Guinness alongside Little Women's James Norton and Game of Thrones' Jack Gleeson, as well as Sunny Dancer alongside The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey. Busy bee, indeed!
