Louisiana rapper Lil Wayne reacts to Kendrick Lamar headlining Super Bowl halftime show
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana rapper Lil Wayne, or Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., responded to the announcement of Kendrick Lamar performing for the halftime show for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans in 2025.
In a video on his Instagram, Lil Wayne said the announcement “broke” him.
“That hurt, hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about. It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position, like somebody told me that was my position, so I blame myself for that,” said Lil Wayne.
He added, “But I thought that there was nothing better than that spot, being on that stage and that platform in my city and so, it hurt, it hurt a whole lot. Like I said, it broke me.”
A song Lil Wayne released with LSU women’s basketball star Flau’jae Johnson, “Came Out a Beast,” is among the NFL’s Songs of the Season playlist.
