'Love at first bite:' Popular soul food restaurant reopens at new location in Old Louisville
LuCretia's Kitchen has moved into a new home in Old Louisville.
The soul food and barbecue restaurant, known for its “Love at first bite” motto, has reopened in a brick-and-mortar space at 617 W. Oak St., the former site of Daddy Rich’s. It was also the original location for Seafood Lady, which recently closed its NuLu space.
After years of selling dinners out of her home, Lucretia Thompson opened her namesake eatery and catering business in 2015 at Chef Space, the kitchen incubator at 812 W Muhammad Ali Blvd.
LuCretia's Kitchen began serving carryout orders last year at 617 W. Oak St., which is near North Lime Coffee & Donuts and Louisville Metro Government's Edison Center. The restaurant is now officially open, following a grand opening event held Friday.
"I am so excited for this opportunity,” Thompson said in a news release. “I've been searching high and low for the perfect place and I'm blessed to finally be home.”
Thompson added that LuCretia's Kitchen “represents three generations of Thompson BBQ.”
With the reopening comes the return of Soul Food Sundays, when a huge spread of food is available, including fried chicken, meatloaf, smothered pork chops, ribs, rib tips and brisket along with side options such as macaroni and cheese, homemade southern collard greens, cabbage and sweet potatoes.
