Established in Kansas City in 2021 with other installments in Fort Worth, Texas, the Tacos and Tequila Festival has been stacked with lineups of hip-hop stars who broke out in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The inaugural Milwaukee-area edition at Franklin Field, held last month, featured Nelly, Fat Joe, Chingy and more.

But the festival's first Milwaukee-area event also received criticism on social media from some ticketholders over extended wait times for parking and to get into the festival, and complaints that tacos and drinks ran out early in the night. There also have been ongoing noise complaints from area residents, with a $200,000 Milwaukee County sound study verifying some of their concerns.

At a Franklin city council meeting this month, Mayor John Nelson assured concerned residents that there will be an "aggressive timeline" to remedy sound issues ahead of the May season opener of the Milwaukee Milkmen, Franklin Field's main tenant. Regarding Taco and Tequila complaints, Franklin Field operator ROC Ventures and Kansas City-based festival promoter Social House Entertainment issued a joint statement, saying "there were aspects of the event that didn’t align with the high standards we set for both teams and our guests," and that they "are already in discussions and are identifying robust solutions to ensure smoother processes for our future collaborations."

Tickets are available now for Tacos and Tequila Festival 2024: $49 for general admission and $129 for VIP passes, at tacosandtequilamke.com. Parking passes are also available for $25 and $50. Ticket prices will increase as the event draws closer, up to $99 for general admission and $199 for VIP passes. No one under the age of 21 is allowed to attend.
