Lukas Gage Says “Smile 2” Is 'So Gory and So Disgusting' He Vomited Off-Camera While Filming
Lukas Gage says he "actually got sick to my stomach" while filming a scene for the upcoming horror movie 'Smile 2'
Lukas Gage is hurling high expectations for his next horror movie role.
While Gage, 28, promoted his new movie Road House during an appearance on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, the actor shared that he recently completed filming on Smile 2, the sequel to 2022's horror hit Smile — and said that the new film is so intense that he once grew physically ill while filming.
"I'm so scared to give any spoilers away. I just — if you love the first movie, you're gonna love this one," he said. "It's so terrifying. It was the first time I've ever been on a set where I was genuinely afraid, and I actually got sick to my stomach in one take."
"I didn't think I would. I just, it was so gory and so disgusting," he added, noting that he "vomited off-camera" while filming one scene in the movie.
Smile, which made $217 million at the worldwide box office upon its release in September 2022, follows Sosie Bacon as a therapist tormented by a monster that takes the form of people sporting a disturbing grin.
The movie, written and directed by filmmaker Kyle Finn, made headlines before its release for hiring actors to attend live baseball games while smiling unnaturally for the cameras, as Entertainment Weekly reported.
Deadline first reported that Gage was cast in the movie in January. Kyle Gallner, who starred in Smile as Bacon's character's ex-boyfriend, is set to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel, with Naomi Scott, Dylan Gelula and Rosemarie Dewitt also included in the movie's cast.
Paramount has not yet released any details regarding Smile 2, but Gage told cohosts Cagle and Julia Cunningham in his interview that the movie is "legitimately that scary."

"I'm not even just lying. I've never been on something that truly terrified me," he said. "The crew is terrified filming because — I don't know, [filmmaker] Parker Finn is, he knows that genre so well."

For now, Gage appears in Jake Gyllenhaal's new movie Road House, a remake of Patrick Swayze's 1989 film of the same name. Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams and MMA fighter Conor McGregor also costar in the movie, which presents Gyllenhaal, 43, as a former UFC fighter who takes up a dangerous job as a bar bouncer in Florida.
Smile 2 is scheduled to release on Oct. 18, while Road House begins streaming on Prime Video on Thursday.
