Luke Bryan Gets Candid About Health Issue That He's Been Forced to 'Suck' Up
Luke Bryan
Country singer Luke Bryan struggles a bit more than the normal person when trying to spend some quality time fishing with his family, as the star revealed that he deals with a pesky allergy to bass.
The 47-year-old opened up about the health issue during a conversation with Audacy's Katie Neal, saying that he was forced to "suck it up" on fishing trips with his dad as a kid as he was "wheezing" on the boat.
According to Bryan, when he touches a bass or any species from the sunfish family of fish, "my eyes will get red, my hands will swell if I have to take the hook out," and he'll get a red face and stuffy nose, adding, "they wipe me out pretty good."
"If I look like I've been smoking pot, that's not true. I've been catching bass," he declared.
While Bryan also stated that he and his family had no clue what the allergy was for years, it hasn't stopped him from fishing all the time. He said he even caught bass on the day of the interview.
Luckily, the American Idol judge gets ahead of the irritating allergy by taking some medicine before fishing, and he joked, "Maybe I can bring awareness... my new foundation is [for] those who've been cursed by the touch of [bass]."
Bryan noted that he goes fishing often, and many members of his family also enjoy the activity, including his mother, LeClaire Bryan, and his wife, Caroline Boyer.
LeClaire—who has become somewhat of a social media star—shared a clip of Bryan casually fishing on a dock last summer, cheering her son on as he successfully reeled in a little fish. Bryan even has a song all about his love of fishing called "Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day," which came out in 2015 on his album Kill the Lights.
