Luke Bryan Surprises College Students With Fan Challenge in ‘So Wholesome’ Video: ‘Great Vibes All Around’
Luke Bryan’s fans know the country music star loves interacting with his listeners—and a new video shows he’s game to get creative when it comes to making his fans smile.
The “Play It Again” singer, who celebrated the release of his new album Mind of a Country Boy on Friday, Sept. 27, recently collaborated with YouTube personalities Joey Gizzi and Steven Lannum of AreYouKiddingTV. In the resulting video that Bryan, 48, and the YouTube channel shared on social media on Friday, the trio visited a college to pose a unique challenge for anyone who spotted them while they were on campus.
The video began with the YouTubers explaining the fan exercise: “The first person to bring Luke Bryan a guitar and play him one of his songs gets $500.” Bryan then stood between the two internet personalities, one of whom had a sign taped to his chest reiterating the rules of the challenge, and waited.
The three men weren’t alone for long when two young women wearing backpacks spotted the opportunity to earn some cash and raced over. “Hi Luke Bryan! I love you so much,” one of the women exclaimed, to which he replied: “I love you.” The two ran off to track down a guitar and returned shortly thereafter, explaining that they both knew the basics of guitar playing.
When the two women first began singing, Bryan urged them to catch their breath, noting, “Oh, it’s gotta be better than that.” The American Idol judge then referenced the reality competition show as he joked, “This could be your American Idol audition, too.”
While the YouTubers seemed initially unconvinced that the performance that followed was enough to earn the $500 prize, the two women ramped up their effort level and were ultimately victorious. At one point, Bryan took over guitar playing duties and led them—and the crowd that had gathered—in a singalong version of his song “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye.”
“He decided to help them out,” AreYouKiddingTV’s caption for the video on TikTok read. Fans who commented on the video online teased the “Drink a Beer” singer over how he was “absolutely not going to stand there and be quiet ??.”
“I don’t think he has a quiet bone in his body. ??,” another fan joked.
Most social media users who weighed in on the video praised it, and Bryan, for sharing the “so wholesome” experience.
“This is pure gold! Luke always knows how to bring the laughs,” one TikToker wrote as another agreed, writing, “I absolutely love him he is so unserious.”
“This is one of my favorites, just great vibes all around!” one Instagram user applauded.
“This brightened my day!” another fan shared.
