Luke Perry's 'Riverdale' co-stars share emotional tributes: 'He took care of us all'

Luke Perry will be missed by his Riverdale family.

The actor, who played Fred Andrews on the CW show since 2016, was honored during Wednesday’s episode — the first since his unexpected death on Monday — with an in memoriam tribute. A the end of the program, the screen faded to black and his name appeared as well as 1966 – 2019. And his co-stars on the show have continued to honor him as well in emotional online tributes.

KJ Apa, who plays Perry’s on-screen son Archie, broke his silence. Along with a photo of Perry boating with a smile on his face, Apa wrote, “Rest in Love bro.”

Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica on the show, a darker take on the Archie comics, shared a candid shot, showing Perry wearing a birthday party hat, and wrote about how the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum “took care of us all” on the set of Riverdale.

Mendes described Perry as an “authentic man who took pleasure in offering us his guidance and wisdom,” and described his presence as “healing.” She shared that there was a feeling of “distress” on the set when Perry died. “We lost a dear friend,” she wrote, and she’ll miss that he’ll “no longer around to wrap me in the warmth of your hug.”

Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead, was promoting another project this week when he was asked to speak about Perry, who had a massive stroke on Feb. 27. “We’re recovering, yeah,” Sprouse said. “It’s obviously not the easiest thing to talk about, but he was well-loved, and there’s been an outpouring of emotional support from people around the world, which just goes to show what a wonderful person he was and how much he impacted people’s lives, and impacted our lives. But I know that his family has requested a sort of privacy during this period and I respect that quite a bit.”

He had shared this photo with Perry after Perry’s stroke.

Madelaine Petsch, who plays Cheryl Blossom, shared a group photo with Perry, who was 52, as well as a message written directly to him.

“Luke, I am so lucky to have known you & gotten so close to you these last 3 years,” she put. “You were such a light in our lives; the most genuine & kind soul I will ever know. From day one of this show you were the most amazing mentor to me. Thank you for teaching me not only about this industry, but also about kindness and being a family and how to foster and nurture those important relationships… you were the absolute best at that.”

She ended with, “I love you Luke, you and those sweet forehead kisses will forever be missed.”

Marisol Nichols, who is Hermione Lodge, shared a series of photos with Perry on Wednesday. “He was beyond a joy to work with, a true professional who epitomized generosity both on and off screen,” she wrote. She also called him “the heart of our show.”

Lili Reinhart, who portrays Betty, shared this photo of them together after his stroke, and then posted a poem on her Instagram Stories after his passing.

In the poem, she wrote, “It’s strange to see the world move on. When someone you love, gets taken from you. And the small circumference surrounding you is stuck. Frozen in a moment. Of loss. And shock. Yet the people passing you are moving at full speed. Did they not feel the earth shake? Or slow? Can they hear the thoughts screaming in my head? His name. His face. Memories. Flashes. Of a friend. A lost friend.”

She continued, “We always expect the earth to stand still. For the universe to grieve the loved ones we have lost, along with us. But it keeps moving. Maybe as a sign that we should too. The movement of strangers, like a wave taking us with them.”

Reinhart ended her poem with the wish that Perry’s spirit moves “in tandem” with those he left behind. “So we ebb and flow with the passage of others, coasting off their energy and conserving our own,” she wrote. “Because it’s too hard to give anything right now. To anyone. Except for him. The one we’ve lost. And I pray that he’s silently moving in tandem with us. Guiding us through the waves even when we can’t swim.”

Molly Ringwald, who played Perry’s character’s ex-wife Mary Andrews, made fans emotional with this photo of them slow-dancing on the show. “Goodbye, my friend,” she wrote. “I enjoyed dancing with you for a time…”

Ross Butler, who was Reggie before the role was recast, called him an “original.” He wrote that Perry “always greeted me with a smile” and “had a joke ready.”

Robin Givens, who has a recurring role as Mayor Sierra McCoy, called Perry one of the most “kind and gentle souls this world has ever been given” and “a true gift.”

Hayley Law, known to fans as Valerie Brown, shared a story about the time Luke “offered to co-sign for my car when the dealership wouldn’t let me finance it.”

Nathalie Boltt, who is Penelope Blossom, shared their last text exchange about going to see a show together. “I guess we won’t make it to that show,” she wrote beneath his reply calling her “darling.” “But I do hope you are having fun somewhere.”

She also called him a “gentleman” and a “fine, fine father.”

Skeet Ulrich, who plays FP Jones, posted a photo of Perry in a swimming pool after news broke about his stroke and urged him to get well because “someone has to man the grill for me.”

After his death, he urged people to make every moment count in life.

Kelly Ripa was a guest star on the show, which also stars her husband, Mark Consuelos. She called Perry “a gentle man.”

Consuelos hasn’t posted directly, but shared an instagram story of a box of donuts and wrote that he had been eating his feelings.

Casey Cott also posted following Perry’s stroke.

And the the actor, who plays Kevin Keller, followed up with a sweet message after his death.

M?dchen Amick, who is Betty’s mom Alice, wrote about how “incredibly special” Perry was and said she’ll love him forever.

After his stroke, she made it clear she was rooting for him.

Vanessa Morgan, who is Toni Topaz, had “no words” after the death of Perry, an “angel.”

Jordan Connor, who is Riverdale‘s Sweet Pea, recalled their conversations which ran the gamut from chatter about baseball to the importance of “sharing love with others.”

Asha Bromfield, who is Melody Valentine, said Perry always made her feel included — even when she didn’t feel that way.

On Thursday, Perry’s 90210 co-stars Jason Priestley and Tiffani Thiessen broke their silence. Most of the cast of that iconic show — Shannen Doherty, Ian Ziering, Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth — on which Perry soared to stardom had already spoken out.

Production has officially resumed on Riverdale. It was halted on Monday after Perry’s unexpected death. On Wednesday, Riverdale developer/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared on social media that the rest of the episodes this season will be dedicated to Perry.

There are no official details on how the show will incorporate Perry’s passing, but Deadline reported that writers are already “tweaking the scripts for the remaining couple of episodes from Season 3 in the wake of Perry’s passing.”
