Lupita Nyong'o Reveals Why She Keeps Her Relationship With Joshua Jackson So Private

Lupita Nyong’o and Joshua Jackson have been fairly low-key about their romance after first being spotted together last fall. While their relationship has been confirmed, they haven’t paraded their love all over Hollywood for a solid reason relating to the Oscar winner’s past relationship.

In October 2023, Nyong’o announced her split from Selema Masekela in an emotional Instagram post, and now, she’s admitting that it was a strategic move. “Honestly, the thought of having to update people one at a time was going to be harrowing,” she told Glamour. “I had made the choice to share the relationship with the world, and I wanted to make the choice to share the end of it with the world.”

While that may sound dramatic, Nyong’o knew that there “would be a reverb” from the announcement that she would “have to deal with.” It wasn’t exactly an easy decision, but her breakup post seemed to indicate that there was infidelity on Masekela’s part. She wrote, “At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust. I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.”

Telling the magazine that “there is a time to be open and there’s a time not to be,“ Nyong’o decided at that moment that she “chose that time to be open.” However, fans shouldn’t expect that openness to be a part of her dating life moving forward, she’s retired from that. “I’m very happy with what I did, and I don’t want to do it anymore,” she admitted. “I don’t want to share that part of myself anymore.”

While she isn’t speaking about her romance with Jackson, the duo packed on the PDA during a March vacation to Mexico. “They looked madly in love like they just couldn’t get enough of one another,” an eyewitness told E! News. Jackson is still in the middle of a divorce from Jodie Turner-Smith, who filed for divorce last October and listed their date of separation as Sept. 13, 2023. Fans are probably eager to hear more about Nyong’o and Jackson’s romance, but it sounds like they are eager to keep their blossoming romance behind closed doors.
