Lupita Nyong'o Says She Personally Contacted Taylor Swift in Bold Admission About Her Music
Lupita Nyong'o is opening up about how much of a Swiftie she really is.
The A Quiet Place: Day One actress recently gushed about Taylor Swift while making an appearance on the YouTube series Hot Ones, where she told host Sean Evans that she once made a personal request of the "Fortnight" songstress.
Nyong'o, 41, explained during the episode that she reached out to Swift, 34, after producers told her they couldn't clear the rights to "Shake It Off" for her 2019 film, Little Monsters.
The 1989 track already had a special meaning to Nyong'o personally, as she explained to Evans, "When I was working in London on Star Wars, I was going through a lot of self-doubt because it was the second thing I had done."
"I was getting a little depressed," she continued. "My best friend came to London, and Taylor had just released 'Shake It Off,’ and he played it for me to like get me into better spirits, and we just jumped on my bed, and we just danced and danced, and it lifted my spirits."
Nyong'o was later delighted to read the Little Monsters script, in which her character Miss Audrey Caroline plays the pop hit on the ukulele.
"That’s one of the reasons why my interest was piqued in this movie when I read the script, because I was like, ‘Someone else who loves ‘Shake It Off’ just as much as I do!'" she remembered thinking.
So when they couldn't get the rights to the song, Nyong'o decided, "I’m gonna go make a pitch, I’m gonna let Taylor know what this song means to me."
After contacting Swift and telling her "that story about how it lifted me from an almost depression," Nyong'o said, "And the next thing I knew, it was cleared."
It's safe to say she's been a Swiftie ever since, even attending the singer's Eras Tour concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last summer.
