On September 19, M&M’S, part of the Mars Inc. family also home to food giants like Skittles and Twix, revealed the upcoming release as the first new flavor innovation since 2022. According to a press release, the Peanut Butter & Jelly M&M’S combine “berry-flavored bite-sized chocolate with a smooth peanut butter center, offering candy lovers the familiar comfort of a PB&J sandwich in each bite.” In terms of colors, expect to find your bag full of gold, red and brown M&M'S.

“Peanut butter M&M’S have always been a popular flavor with our fans, so we're excited to double down on their excitement — with a twist,” said Gabrielle Wesley, Chief Marketing Officer, Mars Wrigley North America in a statement. “Our new M&M’S Peanut Butter & Jelly taps into a cross-generational staple, turning a delicious and comforting snack into a bite-sized treat to be enjoyed and shared.”

If you're a true fan, you might remember the brand’s previous attempt to introduce a fruity component to peanut butter back in 2009, with the Strawberried Peanut Butter M&M’S. However, the flavor was short-lived, discontinuing in 2015.

A look back at M&M’S history

Believe it or not, M&M’S weren’t always a favorite among children. First introduced in 1941, the candies was originally created as a way for soldiers to enjoy chocolate without it melting. As expected, they quickly gained popularity, and by the end of World War II, became a staple in the American candy market. If you've stepped foot in the giant M&M’S store in Times Square, New York, you recognize the brand as a global phenomenon, now available in over 100 countries with a wide variety of flavors, colors and special editions. Not to mention their cast of anthropomorphic M&M’S characters bring a smile on everyone’s face whether in commercials or in packaging.

We all recognize the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich as a quintessential American comfort food. But have you ever wondered where the dynamic duo got its start? The sandwich was first introduced in the early 20th century when peanut butter became more accessible to the public. However, it wasn’t until the 1940s when it became a lunchbox staple for children across America. The combination of peanut butter and jelly on white bread was easy-to-make,  inexpensive and arguably delicious.
