Macaulay Culkin Jokes About Thinking He’d Host the Oscars: 'Heading Home'

Macaulay Culkin is here for the Oscars — but the 2019 award show might have let him down.

The 38-year-old actor shared a photo of himself looking dejected in a suit and holding a bottle of champagne on Twitter Sunday evening ahead of the 91st Academy Awards.

“Awwww. Just found out they’re not having anyone host this year. Heading home. #MackLeavesTheOscars,” he jokingly tweeted.

He also asked comedians Billy Crystal and Jimmy Kimmel to help him out.

“Apparently, there is a “list” you have to “be on” to be host. @BillyCrystal @jimmykimmel can you get me on that list?” he asked.

Culkin’s get up was a change from his confusion over brother Kieran Culkin’s nomination and attendance at the 2019 Golden Globes in January.

The Home Alone actor shared his surprise in a tweet, writing, “HOLY S— KIERAN IS NOMINATED??? WHAT IS SUCCESSION?! Man, I should really answer his calls more often. Thanksgiving is going to be really awkward this year.”

In a follow-up tweet after Kieran, 36, lost out on the best supporting actor in a series, limited series or TV movie award to Ben Whishaw, Macaulay quipped, “This show is rigged!!! I was totally pulling for Winkler. #GoldenGlobes (No one tell [Kieran] he didn’t win).”

The Oscars are going host-less this year after Kevin Hart announced he was stepping down following the resurfacing of previous homophobic tweets.

In November, Macaulay — who starred alongside Kieran in the Home Alone films — told Jimmy Fallon that he was swapping out his middle name, Carson, for a sillier moniker fans could vote on by visiting his new lifestyle website, BunnyEars.com. The winner? Macaulay Culkin — which makes his full name Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.

“Merry Christmas to me, from all of you!” he started the big announcement on Twitter. “My new middle name has been chosen. You voted and the winner is clear. In 2019 my new legal name will be: Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name).”

The 91st Academy Awards are broadcasting live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
