Madonna announces she'll direct, co-write her own biopic: 'The untold true story of Madonna'
Madonna is returning to film to tackle a topic in which she's the foremost authority – herself.
The musician, actress and icon will direct and co-write a new Universal film described as the "untold true story of Madonna," according to a news release from the studio.
"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world," Madonna says in the release.
The focus of the still-untitled film will be her music. "Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller-coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision," Madonna says.

Madonna will co-write with Academy Award winner Diablo Cody. Amy Pascal, who developed "A League of Their Own" at Sony Pictures, will collaborate once again with Madonna as a producer.
There's no word as to who will portray the icon in her early days. Madonna last co-wrote and directed 2011's little-seen "W.E.," about the affair between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson.
Madonna broke into acting with 1985's hit "Desperately Seeking Susan" and went on to star in "Dick Tracy" (1990), "A League of Their Own" (1992) and "Evita "(1996).
The curtain of her life was pulled back in 1991 with the documentary "Truth or Dare."
Madonna tweeted video of the scriptwriting process with Cody, both seated on a giant white couch. After goofing for the camera, Madonna clapped her hands and said, "Let's get serious people, we've got a script to write."

Cody said on video the two were on script page 109.
"And I have so much more to tell," said Madonna.
In the name of research, the singer posted another Twitter video going through her original music cassette demo tapes. "Early days ... first demos," she wrote in the caption.
